IMF/WHO collaboration

15 June 1999

IMF staff have met Dr Bruntland, head of the World Health Organisation, to identify mechanisms for IMFWHO collaboration. The WHO has agreed to provide advice and analysis to help safeguard essential health and social functions in ESAF countries, such as defining basic packages of services, and to develop benchmarks to monitor health sector trends.

Initially the WHO will develop health policy briefs for Nicaragua, Uganda and Vietnam (Nicaragua and Vietnam are pilot countries for the World Bank/IMF collaboration initiative).
