Chad-Cameroon latest

15 April 2000

The oil companies involved in the Chad- Cameroon oilfield and pipeline project have pulled out of the planned deal. Shell International and Elf Aquitaine’s departure, leaves Exxon and new partner Petronas, the Malaysian state oil company. This is again likely to delay World Bank consideration of the project.

In an article on The Backlash Against NGOs in the April edition of UK magazine Prospect, the Chad Cameroon pipeline is used as an example of NGOs “trying to stifle development at any cost” against local peoples’ views and scientific evidence.
