For the fourth time an appeal by the World Bank has been rejected by the Supreme Court in Dhaka. The Bank had petitioned for the dismissal of a case filed by a former employee at the Bank’s Dhaka office, who had challenged the termination of her employment in 2001. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s verdict of June 5, 2008 that ordered a Dhaka court to dispose of the case against the Bank within six months according to newspaper, New Age Bangladesh. The Bank has also sought to have a law enacted which would provide it with immunity from lawsuits in the country. No such law has yet been enacted.
