The IFC is appointing an environmental and social compliance ombudsman to monitor implementation of environmental and social policies. The job will entail advising on sensitive or controversial projects brought to their attention by IFC management or by external complainants. The ombudsman will also supervise audits of social and environmental procedures, reporting directly to the President. The IFC has published a good practice manual to guide companies on how to go about consultations with local communities and NGOs. This text may be freely used providing the source is credited.
