Parliamentarians demand World Bank and IMF respect their authorityThe international parliamentarians' petition will be launched at the spring meetings. The petition demands that elected representatives be the final arbiter of all policies in their countries, not the IFIs. The petition has garnered over 1000 signatures in over 50 countries and will continue to gather more support after the launch in Washington. MPs will be travelling to Washington for the launch from around the globe. A high-level presentation of the petition is scheduled for the afternoon of 15 April, after which will be a workshop involving parliamentarians, IFI staff and shareholders and civil society. A public debate of the issues will be held at Johns Hopkins University 17 April. For event details see the IFIwatchnet calendar. This text may be freely used providing the source is credited.
