The World Bank has delayed finalisation of its new structural adjustment policy. A subcommittee of the Bank's Board reportedly had so many comments on the draft that its release was pushed back to an unspecified date. While the Bank says it wants to move away from a blueprint for development, NGOs have expressed concerns that if the wording of the policy is too vague it will be impossible to hold Bank staff accountable on the impact of Bank programmes. The Committee agreed to a new round of consultations when the new draft is ready. This text may be freely used providing the source is credited.
