The social and human development dimensions of globalisation including human rights are "critical aspects of the Bank's efforts in working with the international community to further the Millennium Development Goals." Bank Management has decided to create a Senior Adviser position in the Managing Director's Office to advise on the Bank's position and approaches on these issues. Alfredo Sfeir-Younis has been appointed to this position effective April 2003. Sfeir-Younis was previously the Bank's Special Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and in New York.
