FCPF still lacks safeguards and participation

In mid March the committee of participants for the Forest Carbon Partnership Fund (FCPF) met. The Bank Information Center expressed concerns that the FCPF process is occurring "without any significant participation by indigenous peoples or civil society". NGOs agreed that there was a "need for greater transparency in the work of the FCPF"; as well as a full safeguard review to strengthen standards and ensure plans are consistent with Bank internal policies and international standards. Donors appear keener on the UNREDD fund which has already begun disbursing grants whilst the FCPF is yet to pay out. The next meeting of the participants committee will be held in June in Switzerland.
