The lower house of the Brazilian parliament is considering a bill which would require the appointment of posts in international organisations such as the Bank and Fund to receive confirmation by the senate. The NGO Rede Brasil has called for civil society to back the bill, saying that it is because the IFIs "remain immune from scrutiny by parliaments and society that such organisations become capable of unduly and harmfully interfering in internal policies of borrower countries."
