Jubilee South summit

15 December 1999

Jubilee 2000 representatives held a South-South Summit in South Africa in late November. They left confident and inspired in their capacities to challenge current economic and political practices.

They discussed the political and historical dimensions of debt problems. Action and organization will include elaborating analytical frameworks and strategies; informing local struggles about globalization; and focusing local struggles to impact on global campaigns.

At the international level Jubilee South will engage with the North to explain Southern positions so as to work with, not for, Northern campaigns. The Summit will convene a meeting with campaigns in the North and others in the South to discuss where the Jubilee movement should go after 2000.
