The Organizacion Defensa y Conservacion Ecologica de Intag has written again to the Ecuadorian environment minister to request that mineral surveys from the Cotacachi-Cayapas national park are not released. They fear that this data would lead to an unstoppable influx of artisanal miners to this area of the North-West of the country. The surveys were carried out under a World Bank financed mining project, called Prodeminca. The World Bank’s Inspection Panel visited Ecuador in April to investigate the issue.
