IDA controversy continues

8 May 2002

The controversy over refinancing the World Bank’s IDA arm was not resolved at the Bank/Fund Spring Meetings. Indeed it has been fuelled by a new study from the US Government’s General Accounting Office which suggests that the World Bank has deliberately over-estimated the financial costs of making IDA deliver more grants. Twenty five US NGOs have produced a paper, Responsible Reform of the World Bank, which reviews current policy debates and proposes improvements to how the Bank goes about its business.
