World Bank to ditch enviromental unit?

At the spring meetings in Washington, a civil society participant asked about rumours that the Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development (ESSD) network was going to be dismantled in a planned re-organisation of the Bank. This would coincide with the rumoured retirement of Ian Johnson, current head of ESSD. The Bank replied that no decisions have been made in this regard and that ESSD staff are “continuing with their important work on the environmental, social, and rural agendas”.
