External panel to review IMF’s Independent Evaluation Office

2 October 2012

In August, the IMF executive board appointed an external panel to review the work of the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO), the body that assesses the Fund’s work. The panel, chaired by former United Nations under-secretary-general for economic and social affairs José Antonio Ocampo, is expected to conclude by end 2012. This is the second external evaluation of the IEO (see Update 52) and will assess how successfully the IEO has met its goals of enhancing the learning culture within the IMF, promoting greater understanding of the Fund’s work and supporting the executive board’s institutional governance and oversight responsibilities.
