Bank announces 2014 WDR topic: risk management

13 February 2013

In December the World Bank published a concept note for its 2014 World Development Report, which will address risk management. The Bank argues that risk management is crucial “to enable individuals, households, and entrepreneurs to pursue new opportunities for growth and prosperity”. It considers this topic to be “timely”, given the series of recent crises which “have stemmed from poor management of risk and have slowed development and poverty alleviation in countries around the world”. The report, due to be published in October 2013 will be led by Norman Loayza, previously lead economist in the Bank’s development economics research group.
