113 civil society organisations and individuals wrote to World Bank president Jim Yong Kim in October 2013 urging him to increase funding for B-SPAN, the Bank’s now dormant internet based broadcasting service launched in 2000 (see Update 21). B-SPAN currently covers a limited number of events including talks, the latest from 2011. The letter, following on from a 2011 letter (see Update 77), urges Kim “to use your authority to expand funding for B-SPAN, so that it can fulfil its original mandate.” It calls for the expansion of B-SPAN coverage so that knowledge generated by the Bank “can get to external development stakeholders to help them in the application of their own global poverty reduction efforts.”
